Oyster Fire Escape Inspections

About Oyster Fire Escape Inspections

Oyster Fire Escape Inspections is an independent fire escape inspection firm serving New Jersey property owners and property managers — every county, every municipality. We inspect. We don't repair. The report is the entire product.

Origin

Oyster Fire Escape Inspections was founded after years of seeing the same pattern: building owners receiving fire escape "inspections" from contractors who would then quote the repair work. The conflict of interest produced inflated deficiency lists and sole-source repair pricing. The firm was founded to provide independent inspection — no repair work, ever — so property owners can take the report to any qualified contractor for competitive bids.

Methodology

Every inspection follows the requirements of the NJ Uniform Fire Code and the International Fire Code §1104. The structural visual examination covers stringers, treads, landings, handrails, balusters, attachment brackets, drop-down ladder mechanism, counterweight assembly, and the masonry or structural connections. Load testing is performed per IFC §1104.16.5 — 1,000 pounds per landing or five times the design live load, whichever is greater — when the inspection cycle, the AHJ, or the property's history requires it.

Independence

Oyster Fire Escape Inspections does not sell repair work. The deliverable is a written report. Property owners take that report to any qualified structural or welding contractor for repair quotes. Repairs typically come in significantly under what a single-source bidder would charge, because the inspection becomes the agreed scope of work and multiple contractors can bid against the same documentation.

AHJ Working Relationships

Over years of submitting certifications to fire officials across New Jersey, Oyster Fire Escape Inspections has built familiarity with how individual AHJs prefer reports formatted, what supporting documentation they request, and how they communicate enforcement timelines. That experience translates into reports that get accepted on first submission rather than bouncing back for revisions.

Service Area

Oyster Fire Escape Inspections services every one of New Jersey's counties and municipalities. The methodology, report format, and turnaround commitment are the same statewide. Whether the property is a single brownstone in an urban core or a multi-building commercial campus in a suburban area, the deliverable is identical.
